10 Step Vipassana Meditation

Don't get too comfortable meditating or you could be there for hours.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a real stress monkey. I seem all calm and collect on the outside, but my hypertensive interior is often at boiling point because I have so many things to do, people to meet and places to be. Part of me even likes being a little stressed because it gets me moving int he right direction. But no stress is good stress. Stress is very bad for you and can lead to high blood pressure. In turn, high blood pressure can cause long term damage to sensitive organs and increase the likelihood of heart attack. Hypertension is know as the silent killer in our Western society. So we need tool with which to de-stress. Thankfully, there are many techniques and meditation is very easy to do.
I’ve done a few 10 day Buddhist retreats where you learn to meditate for 12 hours a day. Afterwards, you feel as if a load has been lifted. You feel very light.
The idea of Vipassana meditation is to clear the mind. Our mind is constantly thnking and, I don’t know about you, but most of the stuff in it is rubbish. I spent three days on my second Buddhist retreat just trying to get the Arnott’s Shapes girl and her stupid jingle out of my head!
So here’s how you clear your mind with a particular type of meditation called, Vipassana. I recommend you do at least ten minutes to start with. Click Here.

hi edwin, i tried this and it made me realise how short my attention span is…. i cannot sit still. probably means i need to meditate more, right?
Or possibly less. I’m with you. It’s near impossible to sit still and that can create the most “noise” during meditation. But try to stay still. if there are any aches or pains as you meditate, simply “watch” them. Without judgement. I say, ” Oh, now here’s something interesting. Pins and needles in my legs. I shall watch this, but return to my breath as soon as it passes.” All things pass. It’s like life too. The emotional pains and experiences of life will come and go – as will the love and fun stuff. Eventually, even life passes. Meditation says that we should be more aware of it – be more in the moment. Because eventually, even life itself – will pass.
