Home Alone (sans TV)

Hmm. I thought so. You're experiencing ennui.

Hmm. I thought so. You're experiencing ennui.

Going in early tomorrow for a yearly blood test and then a mole check with my new Doctor. The last mole check I had was about 2 months ago, but the Doc seemed dodgy. Too keen to take my $50 and get me out the door. So I’m doing it again – this time on good old Medicare (Australia’s National Health System). I won’t have to pay a thing. In fact, I’m going in for a mole check, a mental fitness appraisal (the ennui), a blood pressure check-up and a blood test – all under Medicare (ie. free). That’s a 45 minute consultation. I wonder how much that would cost in the US? Anyone?

This Doc’s turning out to be the best one I’ve had. Exactly my age, not too greedy and with a very wholistic approach to medicine. When he asked me what was wrong, I told him I had “a tummy ache, but mainly severe ennui.” He laughed – which put me onside straight away.

I hope the tummy ache is nothing. Plus, my back’s been hurting for nearly 6 months now after that twinge I had due to bootcamp.

I really need to do some exercise as I’m totally out of shape. Swimming!

Flat mate moved out today. Great that he left the fridge and washing machine. I thought they were goners for sure. I’ll be living in a totally empty house by myself for a couple of weeks – after which the girlfriend moves in. It’ll be very Zen. The way I like it. Lots of ambient music and no TV for at least two weeks. I abhor television. It’s like an uninvited guest – sitting there in the corner, consuming power and spewing out lies. Children should be banned from watching it. People think I’m weird because I’m so anti-TV, but when you consider it’s very mercenarial goal (to sell cancer causing products and destroy the environment with plastic which is ultimately killing us) – exorcising TV from one’s life is probably a healthy thing.
